Results: the official election results site. Counts are unofficial until certified.
- What it does
- Shall the Town Charter be revised to grant the Board of Police Commissioners the authority, upon majority vote, to retain independent legal counsel separate from Town Counsel whenever the Commission determines such representation is necessary to carry out its statutory, disciplinary, investigatory, administrative, or oversight responsibilities, including matters involving conflicts of interest?
- A YES vote means
- Plainfield's Board of Police Commissioners could, by majority vote, hire its own legal counsel separate from Town Counsel when it finds that necessary for its duties, including conflicts of interest.
- A NO vote means
- The charter would not give the Board of Police Commissioners this authority to hire separate legal counsel.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
