Morehouse Parish — Parishwide Proposition No. 1 of 2 (Millage Renewal) (LSU Ag Center)

Last updated Sat, Nov 7, 4:33 PM ET

Ballot measure · November 3, 2026

What it does
Shall the Parish of Morehouse, State of Louisiana (the "Parish"), acting under the authority of Article VI, Section 30 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974 and La. R.S. 3:301, continue to levy and collect a special ad valorem tax of fifty-seven hundredths of one (0.57) mill, on all the property subject to taxation within the Parish (an estimated $120,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for one entire year), for a period of ten (10) years, beginning with the year 2027 and ending with the year 2036, for the purpose of improving, operating, maintaining and equipping the Morehouse Parish Extension Office of the LSU Agricultural Center, including 4-H youth programs and all other educational programs?
A YES vote means
Morehouse Parish would continue a 0.57-mill property tax from 2027 through 2036 for the parish LSU AgCenter Extension Office, including 4-H youth and other educational programs.
A NO vote means
The parish would not continue the 0.57-mill property tax for the Extension Office for 2027 through 2036.
What it would cost
0.57 mills (estimated) for 10 years: $57 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value (a mill is $1 per $1,000). Louisiana assesses homes at 10% of market value, so that's about $5.70 per $100,000 of market value, before the homestead exemption. Taxable value is after exemptions such as homestead; your tax bill or property appraiser shows yours. It would continue a tax already in place rather than add a new one.
Needed to pass
A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
Left–right lean
Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
