Morehouse Parish — Parishwide Proposition No. 2 of 2 (Millage) (Morehouse Activity Complex)

Last updated Sat, Nov 7, 4:33 PM ET

Ballot measure · November 3, 2026

What it does
Shall the Parish of Morehouse, State of Louisiana (the "Parish"), acting under the authority of Article VI, Sections 30 and 32 of the Louisiana Constitution of 1974, levy and collect a special ad valorem tax of one (1.00) mill, on all the property subject to taxation within the Parish (an estimated $211,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for one entire year), for a period of five (5) years, beginning with the year 2027 and ending with the year 2031, for the purpose of improving, operating, maintaining and equipping the Morehouse Activity Complex?
A YES vote means
Morehouse Parish would levy a 1-mill property tax for five years (2027 through 2031) to improve, operate, maintain and equip the Morehouse Activity Complex.
A NO vote means
The parish would not levy this 1-mill property tax for the Morehouse Activity Complex.
What it would cost
1 mill (estimated) for 5 years: $100 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value (a mill is $1 per $1,000). Louisiana assesses homes at 10% of market value, so that's about $10 per $100,000 of market value, before the homestead exemption. Taxable value is after exemptions such as homestead; your tax bill or property appraiser shows yours.
Needed to pass
A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
Left–right lean
Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).

The YES and NO lines are SpectrumVote's plain-language reading of the official text above; the official text is what you vote on.
