Pointe Coupee Parish — Parishwide Proposition No. 1 of 2 (Sales Tax Renewal)

Last updated Sat, Nov 7, 4:33 PM ET

Ballot measure · November 3, 2026

What it does
Shall the Parish of Pointe Coupee, State of Louisiana (the "Parish"), be authorized to continue to levy and collect a tax of 1/2% (the "Tax") in accordance with Louisiana law, for a period of 15 years from July 1, 2027 (an estimated $2,300,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), with the proceeds of the Tax (after paying the reasonable and necessary expenses of collecting and administering the Tax), to be dedicated and used for the purpose of constructing, improving and resurfacing public roads and bridges in the Parish, including incidental drainage and acquiring equipment therefor?
A YES vote means
Pointe Coupee Parish would continue a 1/2% sales tax for 15 years from July 1, 2027, for public roads and bridges, including drainage and equipment.
A NO vote means
The parish would not continue the 1/2% sales tax for the 15 years from July 1, 2027.
Needed to pass
A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
Left–right lean
Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).

The YES and NO lines are SpectrumVote's plain-language reading of the official text above; the official text is what you vote on.

Background

The Pointe Coupee Parish Council sought Louisiana State Bond Commission approval to hold this election; it was item L26-167 on the Commission's June 18, 2026 agenda, which listed two sales tax questions: a ½% tax for roads and bridges for 15 years and a ¼% tax for Pointe Coupee Parish Health Services District No. 1 for 10 years.

According to the agenda, Proposition 1's ½% sales tax would run 15 years from July 1, 2027, for building, improving and resurfacing public roads and bridges, including drainage and equipment. The proposition text estimates it would raise $2,300,000 a year.

Put on the ballot by The Pointe Coupee Parish Council, 2026 (resolution date and vote not found online); State Bond Commission agenda June 18, 2026 (L26-167).
