West Feliciana Parish — Parishwide Proposition No. 1 of 3 (Millage Renewal)

Last updated Sat, Nov 7, 4:33 PM ET

Ballot measure · November 3, 2026

What it does
Shall the Parish of West Feliciana, State of Louisiana (the "Parish"), continue to levy a 0.5 mill tax on all the property subject to taxation within the Parish (an estimated $255,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), for a period of 10 years, beginning with the year 2027 and ending with the year 2036, for the purpose of maintaining, operating and/or improving the public hospital in the Parish?
A YES vote means
West Feliciana Parish would continue a 0.5-mill property tax from 2027 through 2036 for the parish public hospital.
A NO vote means
The parish would not continue the 0.5-mill hospital tax for 2027 through 2036.
What it would cost
0.5 mills (estimated) for 10 years: $50 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value (a mill is $1 per $1,000). Louisiana assesses homes at 10% of market value, so that's about $5 per $100,000 of market value, before the homestead exemption. Taxable value is after exemptions such as homestead; your tax bill or property appraiser shows yours. It would continue a tax already in place rather than add a new one.
Needed to pass
A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
Left–right lean
Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).

The YES and NO lines are SpectrumVote's plain-language reading of the official text above; the official text is what you vote on.

Background

This is one of three parishwide tax renewals called by the West Feliciana Parish Council. In Louisiana, a local tax election must be approved by the State Bond Commission; the Commission's June 18, 2026 agenda lists all three for the November 3, 2026 election, each for 10 years (2027–2036): 0.5 mill for the public hospital, 1.0 mill for public health facilities, animal control, mosquito control, solid waste and the coroner's office, and 8.89 mills for roads, public buildings and other purposes (item L26-174).

The ballot estimates the 0.5-mill hospital tax would raise $255,000 a year.

Put on the ballot by West Feliciana Parish Council; State Bond Commission agenda June 18, 2026 (L26-174); calling ordinance date and vote not found.
