West Feliciana Parish — Parishwide Proposition No. 2 of 3 (Millage Renewal)
Ballot measure · November 3, 2026
Results: the official election results site. Counts are unofficial until certified.
- What it does
- Shall the Parish of West Feliciana, State of Louisiana (the "Parish"), continue to levy a 1 mill tax on all the property subject to taxation within the Parish (an estimated $510,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected from the levy of the tax for an entire year), for a period of 10 years, beginning with the year 2027 and ending with the year 2036, for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining, operating, providing and/or supporting (i) public health facilities and other social services, (ii) animal control equipment, facilities and/or services, (iii) equipment, facilities and/or services necessary or useful in the eradication, abatement or control of mosquitoes and other arthropods of public health importance, (iv) solid waste collection and disposal equipment, facilities and services and (v) the coroner's office in the Parish?
- A YES vote means
- West Feliciana Parish would continue a 1-mill property tax from 2027 through 2036 for public health and social services, animal control, mosquito control, solid waste, and the coroner's office.
- A NO vote means
- The parish would not continue this 1-mill tax for 2027 through 2036.
- What it would cost
- 1 mill (estimated) for 10 years: $100 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value (a mill is $1 per $1,000). Louisiana assesses homes at 10% of market value, so that's about $10 per $100,000 of market value, before the homestead exemption. Taxable value is after exemptions such as homestead; your tax bill or property appraiser shows yours. It would continue a tax already in place rather than add a new one.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
Background
According to the proposition text published by the Louisiana Secretary of State, this is a renewal ('continue to levy') of a 1 mill parishwide property tax for 10 years (2027 through 2036), estimated to raise $510,000 a year.
The proposition lists five uses: public health facilities and other social services, animal control, mosquito and arthropod control, solid waste collection and disposal, and the parish coroner's office.
The Parish's 2023 millage-adoption ordinance lists this tax as a 1.000 mill levy for 'Health, Animal, Mosquitoes, Waste, Coroner.'
The Advocate reported on June 10, 2026 that it is one of three parish-government property tax renewals on the November 3 ballot, along with a 0.5 mill hospital levy and an 8.89 mill roads, buildings and recreation levy; the Parish Council's resolution calling the election and its vote were not found in a record we could open.
