Background
This is one of several Charter amendments sent to the ballot from Maple Heights' Charter Review process; the Charter Review Commission met in early 2026 to review Charter Articles I through V.
Ordinance No. 2026-59, submitting the question of amending Charter Article III, Section 3 to voters at the November 3, 2026 general election and declaring an emergency, was listed for first reading on the City Council's August 5, 2026 agenda under 'Charter Review.'
The amendment would delete the Charter provision that lets an elective officer who has been absent from the duties of office for three months, or has become disqualified, continue in office until a successor is qualified, according to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections ballot language.
