- What it does
- QUESTION: Shall Arlington County contract a debt and issue its general obligation bonds in the maximum principal amount of $69,745,000 to finance, together with other available funds, the cost of various capital projects for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and other transit, pedestrian, road or transportation projects?
- A YES vote means
- Arlington County could borrow up to $69,745,000 by issuing bonds for WMATA (Metro) capital projects and other transit, pedestrian, road and transportation projects.
- A NO vote means
- Arlington County would not issue these $69,745,000 in bonds.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
Background
Arlington County says this is one of five bond referenda totaling $264 million on the November 3, 2026 ballot. The projects come from the county's FY 2027-FY 2036 Capital Improvement Program and Arlington Public Schools' CIP, adopted June 18, 2026.
According to the county, the $69,745,000 would fund $46.3 million toward Arlington's share of WMATA/Metro's capital program, $15.0 million for paving local streets, $2.1 million for street lighting, $1.8 million for signals and intelligent transportation system maintenance, and $4.6 million for other transportation projects.
The county says the County Board may reallocate the money among other transportation projects in its Capital Improvement Plan.
