Results: the official election results site. Counts are unofficial until certified.
- What it does
- Shall the City of Gibraltar, County of Wayne, Michigan, be authorized to levy a new additional millage in an amount not to exceed 3.5 mills ($3.50 per $1,000.00 of taxable value) on all taxable real and personal property in the City, for a period of five (5) years, 2027 through 2031, inclusive, for the purpose of funding police, fire, and emergency (public safety) services, including related personnel, benefits, equipment, apparatus, and capital replacement? If approved and levied in full, this millage is estimated to raise approximately $672,281.68 for the City in the first calendar year of the levy (2027). A portion of the revenue collected may be captured by and disbursed to the City of Gibraltar Downtown Development Authority.
- A YES vote means
- Gibraltar would levy a new tax of up to 3.5 mills for five years, 2027 through 2031, for police, fire and emergency services, raising about $672,281.68 in 2027.
- A NO vote means
- Gibraltar would not levy this new public safety millage.
- What it would cost
- Up to 3.5 mills (estimated) for 5 years: $350 a year for every $100,000 of taxable value (a mill is $1 per $1,000). Taxable value is after exemptions such as homestead; your tax bill or property appraiser shows yours.

Background
The Gibraltar City Council approved the ballot language for this public safety millage for the November 3, 2026 ballot, according to the city's public safety millage page.
The city says revenue could be used to establish a part-time fire department, fund public safety capital purchases such as police vehicles, ambulances and turnout gear, and pay public safety operating and personnel costs now supported in part by general operating revenues and fund balance.
Because a separate voter-approved water and sewer millage, currently levied at 2.3985 mills, is scheduled to expire, the city estimates the net increase in its total millage rate at approximately 1.1015 mills, assuming that millage is not renewed or replaced.
The city says it has 10 grant applications and awards in process related to fire services, including a request for about $1.6 million to replace the ladder truck that would require an estimated local match of about $320,000.
