Background
The Ferndale City Council placed this Charter amendment on the November 3, 2026 ballot, one of two city Charter questions, according to the city's election information.
Under the current Charter, Council members must resign to run for Mayor unless their Council term ends in the same election year, and the Council then appoints someone to fill the rest of the term, the city says.
If approved, the Charter section requiring the resignation (Chapter IV, Section 5) would be deleted, and Council members running for Mayor would not need to give up their Council seats.
