Explained

Today

  • The City of Orchard Lake Village owns a vacant parcel at 4039 Pontiac Trail (Parcel ID 18-15-428-017).
  • The City Charter (Section 7.6(B)) says the Council cannot sell or dispose of any real estate unless it first passes an ordinance with at least five affirmative votes and then a majority of voters approve the sale at a general or special election. Section 12.1 likewise bars selling city real estate without a majority vote of the electors.

If it passes

  • A yes vote authorizes the City to sell the 4039 Pontiac Trail parcel.
  • The Charter's general purchasing rules would still apply; it says sales are to be made to the bidder whose bid is most advantageous to the City and must be documented by written contract.
  • A no vote means the City cannot sell the parcel.

Who would notice

Orchard Lake Village residents, neighbors of the parcel, and any buyer. It does not change any tax.

How it got here

Under the City Charter, any sale of city-owned real estate needs voter approval, so the City placed the question on the November 3, 2026 ballot. We did not find official documents on the Council's reasons or the planned use or price.
