Ballot measure · November 3, 2026 · Oakland Township voters

What it does
Shall the Charter Township of Oakland be authorized to renew the current Headlee reduced levy of up to 0.6809 of one mill for a period of ten (10) years beginning with the December 2027 levy for the purpose of providing funds to be used for the support of parks and recreation within the Oakland Township; including for the management, maintenance, acquisition, operation and improvement of Oakland Township parks, recreation areas, park trails, facilities, programs, recreation, and services; and to acquire new park land for Oakland Township? Approval of this proposal would renew the tax limitation levy of 0.6809 mills on all taxable property in Oakland Township. Approval of this proposal would authorize the levy of approximately $0.6809 per $1,000 of taxable property in the Township. It is estimated that this proposal would result in the authorization to collect up to $1,462,309 in the first year if approved and levied in full.
A YES vote means
Oakland Township would renew its parks and recreation millage of up to 0.6809 mill for ten years starting December 2027, for parks, trails, programs and new park land, raising up to $1,462,309 the first year.
A NO vote means
Oakland Township's parks and recreation millage would not be renewed.

Background

According to Oakland Township's Parks and Recreation newsletter, the parks millage of 0.7307 mill approved by voters in 2016 expires December 31, 2026; the Headlee Amendment has since rolled it back to 0.6809 mill, the rate this proposal would renew for 10 years.

The township says the millage funds the Oakland Township Parks and Recreation Commission's management of about 1,500 acres of parkland and natural areas, maintenance and scheduled resurfacing of the township's 5.3-mile section of the Paint Creek Trail, and recreation programs and events.

The proposed ballot language estimates up to $1,462,309 in the first year if approved and levied in full; the township says that if not renewed, those funds would no longer be available and alternative funding may not be found.

Put on the ballot by Oakland Charter Township Board of Trustees, 2026 (adoption date and vote not found online).
