What local offices are elected in Pennsylvania?
Most counties elect three commissioners (home-rule counties such as Allegheny, Delaware, Erie, Lehigh, Luzerne and Northampton elect a council, and some an executive), plus a controller or three auditors, a treasurer, prothonotary, clerk of courts, register of wills, recorder of deeds, sheriff, district attorney and coroner. Cities and boroughs elect a mayor and council, townships elect supervisors or commissioners, and every municipality elects a tax collector and, in most, auditors. All of these are partisan offices elected in odd-numbered years. School districts elect nine school directors.
