Background
Coalinga voters approved the city's 1% general sales tax in 2018 with an April 1, 2029 expiration date; this measure would extend it to April 1, 2039, according to City Council Resolution No. 4337.
The Coalinga City Council adopted the resolution on July 16, 2026, with Ramirez, Schindler, Lowder and Vosburg voting yes and none voting no, and requested the Measure J designation; as a general tax it needs a simple majority.
The ballot question states the tax generates about $2,000,000 a year, roughly 25% of the city's General Fund revenue, with annual citizen review and independent audits.
