Ballot measure · November 3, 2026 · Firebaugh voters

What it does
To ensure 24/7 response to fires and medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, and car accidents; hire/train firefighters/EMTs; upgrade safety equipment, vehicles/life-saving rescue tools, shall a measure be adopted to enact a $95/year parcel tax for single family homes and specified amounts for multifamily, commercial, agricultural, and industrial parcels, providing approximately $240,000/year until ended by voters; requiring independent oversight; funds used only for Firebaugh Fire Department response?
A YES vote means
Firebaugh would levy a $95-a-year parcel tax on single-family homes, with set amounts for other parcels, raising about $240,000 a year only for the Firebaugh Fire Department until ended by voters, with independent oversight.
A NO vote means
Firebaugh would not levy this fire department parcel tax.
Needed to pass
A two-thirds supermajority: at least 2 out of every 3 YES and NO votes must be YES, so a measure can get a majority and still fail.
Left–right lean
Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).

Background

The Firebaugh City Council adopted Resolution No. 26-46 on August 3, 2026 (Jenkins, Perez, Lopez, Renteria and Valdez voting yes), replacing a July 6, 2026 resolution after the Fresno County Registrar of Voters asked for revisions to the ballot wording and election details, according to the resolution.

The resolution states that the Fire Department has seen growing demand for emergency medical and fire calls while costs rise, and that additional funding is needed to establish paid 24-hour, 7-day-a-week emergency response shift coverage and to maintain and replace equipment, vehicles and protective gear.

The measure would add a special fire and emergency response parcel tax to the city code, a year for single-family homes; as a special tax it needs two-thirds voter approval, and the resolution directs the City Attorney to prepare an impartial analysis.

Put on the ballot by Firebaugh City Council, August 3, 2026 (Resolution No. 26-46, replacing Resolution No. 26-35 of July 6, 2026).
