Background
This measure goes to voters of the Los Angeles Unified School District, because the City Charter sets the campaign finance rules for LAUSD Board of Education candidates, according to the Chief Legislative Analyst's impartial summary.
The summary says Board of Education and Mayoral campaign rules are similar but sit in different parts of the Charter and Municipal Code; SC would remove repeated language in Charter Section 803 and apply the Mayoral rules to school board candidates, except rules that apply only to City offices, such as public matching funds and limits on contributions from City contractors and lobbyists.
The City Administrative Officer says it is not expected to have a financial impact on the City.
The City Council passed the election ordinance (No. 188984) on June 30, 2026.
