Background

This charter amendment reached the ballot by citizen petition. According to the Board of Elections notice, City Council passed a resolution submitting it to voters on July 20, 2026.

It would add a Section 1.05 allowing referendums on Council ordinances under state law, but with a signature requirement of 10% of the city's electors, based on the total vote at the last preceding general municipal election.

A competing amendment recommended by the charter commission (Issue 36) would set the requirement at 10% of city voters in the most recent governor's election.

Put on the ballot by Citizen initiative petition; submitted by Worthington City Council resolution, July 20, 2026.
