Ballot measure · November 3, 2026 · Forest Hill voters
Results: the official election results site. Counts are unofficial until certified.
- What it does
- Shall the City Charter § 3.10(3) be amended to require (rather than allow) the Council to adopt an ordinance or resolution further specifying procedures for investigations, notices, hearings, public reprimands, censures, and suspensions of the Mayor and/or a Council Member?
- A YES vote means
- The Forest Hill Council would be required, not just allowed, to adopt an ordinance or resolution setting procedures for investigations, notices, hearings, reprimands, censures and suspensions of the Mayor or a Council Member.
- A NO vote means
- The Forest Hill Council would still be allowed, but not required, to adopt such an ordinance or resolution.
- Needed to pass
- A simple majority: more than half of the YES and NO votes on this measure must be YES. Leaving it blank doesn't count either way.
- Left–right lean
- Not a left–right issue: a procedural or local question that liberals and conservatives don't typically split on (AI read of the official ballot summary).
Background
The Forest Hill City Council proposed this charter amendment and ordered the election in Ordinance No. 2026-16 on August 4, 2026.
Section 3.10(3) of the charter now says the council 'may' adopt an ordinance or resolution further specifying the procedure for investigation, notice, hearing, public reprimand, censure and suspension of the mayor or a council member, and for excusing absences; the amendment would change 'may' to 'shall,' according to the ordinance.
It is one of several charter amendments on the ballot, including changes to recall rules and city manager severance pay.
