Background
According to the Maricopa County School Superintendent's informational pamphlet, the Cartwright Governing Board called this election to continue the district's existing 15% override, which voters approved on November 8, 2022, for seven more years.
The pamphlet estimates the override at $14,110,701 for 2027-28, funded by a secondary tax rate of about $3.55 per $100 of assessed value. It estimates the cost at about $295 a year for a home with the district-average limited value of $83,120.
The pamphlet says that if the override is not continued, it would phase down by one-third in 2028-29 and another third in 2029-30. It says the money funds teachers to keep current class sizes, all-day kindergarten and instructional materials.
The pamphlet contains an argument for the override from the Cartwright Governing Board and notes that no arguments against were submitted.
