Background

According to the Maricopa County School Superintendent's informational pamphlet, Fountain Hills Unified School District's governing board called this election to continue its existing 15% maintenance and operation budget override for seven years.

The district estimates the override at $1,198,017 for 2027/2028, funded by a secondary property tax of about $0.17 per $100 of net assessed value. It says that is about the same as the current rate.

The district estimates the cost at about $78 a year for a home with a limited property value of $467,130, the district average. If the measure fails, the current override would be cut by one-third ($399,339) in 2027/2028 and another third in 2028/2029, each step lowering the tax rate by about $0.06.

Arguments both for and against were submitted for the pamphlet.

Put on the ballot by Fountain Hills Unified School District No. 98 Governing Board (special budget override election call; date and vote not stated in the pamphlet).
