Background

According to the Maricopa County School Superintendent's informational pamphlet, the Glendale Union High School District Governing Board called this election to continue the district's existing 10% maintenance and operation override, which voters approved on November 8, 2022, for seven more years.

The pamphlet estimates the override at $12,172,547 for 2027-28, funded by a secondary tax rate of about $0.53 per $100 of assessed value. It estimates the cost at about $83 a year for a home with the district-average limited value of $156,780.

The pamphlet says that if the override is not continued, it would phase down by one-third in 2028-29 and another third in 2029-30. It lists programs it funds including reducing class size, course offerings, athletic and co-curricular programs, and student support services.

The pamphlet contains arguments for the override and notes that no arguments against were submitted.
